Land Use Planning
The Planning Division provides services regarding the Official Plan and Zoning By-law documents for the Town of Collingwood, exercising control over the subdivision of land, and indirectly by providing municipal services and pursuing municipal policies that support and reinforce the land use planning objectives of the Municipality and the County of Simcoe.

Zoning By-law
The Collingwood Zoning By-law implements the land-use policies of the Town’s Official Plan, as amended, and is one of the principal documents used to ensure the proper and orderly development of the municipality. The Collingwood Zoning By-law pertains to all lands within the boundaries of the Town.
Official Plan
The Town’s official plan:
- makes the public aware of the municipality’s general land use planning policies
- makes sure that growth is coordinated and meets our community’s needs
- helps all members of our community understand how their land may be used now and in the future
- helps decide where roads, watermains, sewers, garbage dumps, parks, and other services will be built
- provides a framework for establishing municipal zoning bylaws to set local regulations and standards, like the size of lots and height of buildings
- provides a way to evaluate and settle conflicting land uses while meeting local, regional and, provincial interests
