Steve’s career journey has been rooted in his inherent desire to help people. After earning a degree in human biology from the University of Guelph, Steve explored various industries but eventually went on to complete a doctorate in Naturopathic Medicine in San Diego, California. While he still holds his license in California and Alberta, he is currently focused on growing Vortex Wellness Studio, which he co-founded with his husband Daniel.
Complementing Steve’s scientific background is Daniel, a creative powerhouse and self-professed personal development junkie. Daniel has a long history as an actor, singer-songwriter, graphic and web designer, and yoga/meditation instructor. After studying drama at the University of Guelph, Daniel lived in Toronto, Los Angeles, and Nashville while pursuing his love of the stage and self-discovery.

Vortex Wellness Studio is a vibrant, state-of-the-art wellness facility where science-backed technology meets mindfulness. The team at Vortex has handpicked an international selection of the best wellness technologies and brought them together in an innovative and inspiring space. The same cutting-edge technology used by professional sports teams and high-performance organizations powers the Vortex experience. “Vortex was born out of the idea that we want to reinvent the wheel when it comes to self-care and wellness. We wanted to make wellness a more private experience, more fun and more accessible in terms of time and budget,” says Daniel.
He notes that one person taking care of themselves and shifting their state of well-being creates a positive effect that ripples into the wider community. The Vortex experience has been designed to make self-care easy, fast and fun. The studio offers private wellness sessions to level up one’s mind and body. Whether one is a biohacker or a wellness newbie, Vortex has something for everyone to help them proactively participate in their body’s ability to thrive.
The studio offers eight different sessions that incorporate various elements of sound, light, vibration and energy frequencies in a truly unique and immersive experience. The Somadome is described as the ‘ultimate meditation station.’ It’s the world’s first technology-enabled meditation pod, which allows the user to choose either a guided or unguided meditation that shifts your state in 20 minutes. The Red Light session is created by the glow of red and near-infrared light waves that are designed to create energy in the cells and supercharge the body. The TUNE session is a vibroacoustic performance technology that helps relax and recalibrate the nervous system, clinically proven to reduce stress by 54% in 15 minutes. The Compression session is a dynamic air massage for the lower body that drastically improves muscle recovery, circulation, lymphatic drainage, and overall relaxation. Vortex also offers the only private infrared sauna suites in the area, providing a deeply detoxifying, de-stressing, and rejuvenating experience in an elevated and completely private setting. The Halo session is a modern day take on salt caves, where rejuvenating salt meets gentle infrared heat. The SEQEX session is described as the ‘human charging station’ – it uses electromagnetic frequencies to exercise one’s cells and optimize their functionality to improve overall health. Last but not least, Vortex’s most popular session is NuCalm – a science-backed software that provides the world’s best power nap – it turns off the body’s stress response and provides 4 hours of restorative sleep in just 40 minutes.

Vortex welcomes same-day bookings and appointments scheduled up to a month in advance. All sessions range from $30-$85, making the next-level wellness experiences more affordable than a visit to a traditional spa. Pricing comes in the form of drop-in rates, discounted bulk passes, and membership options that fit different lifestyles. The best way to start is with Vortex’s signature offering, the Discovery Pass which allows the user to experience one of each session within a 30 day timespan for 50% off.

Daniel notes that the support from the Collingwood community has played a vital role in making the business what it is today. The business has received consistent five-star reviews and has developed a reputation for the positive experience it provides to its customers. Word-of-mouth especially has become a key part of how people find out about Vortex Wellness Studio. The team plans to eventually expand the business beyond Collingwood and Ontario, but Daniel notes that the root of Vortex will always remain in the town. As Daniel puts it, “Vortex isn’t just about wellness—it’s about redefining self-care. The future of feeling good is here in Collingwood.”
